RE Appointment

… was fabulous!

Yes, of course we have to wait to get the hypothyroidism in check. But why wait to see what else we may need to do? So off we went to the doctor.

And he was wonderful. Spent two hours with us (is that normal?! it was great!), took the time to go through my medical history, answer any questions, speak jovially about some of his other patients, reassure us that my young age is a definite plus! He was also super super optimistic throughout, talking about “when you are pregnant” – when I joked about his optimism, he said “oh, you will be pregnant” (which I realize may come back to bite him AND me if things don’t go super well, but for now, that’s what I want and need to hear!)

He did the full pelvic exam in his office and also drew blood to test for 9842830498 bad possibilities. He talked to us about where to get the goods and how his office works. He has storage space for the sperm in his office, so we can order the month we inseminate and save money on shipping and stress of making sure the timing is perfect. We also don’t have to lug around a vat o’sperm to his office. He is available 7 days a week and holidays to do insems and likes to do two each cycle (one the day of positive OPK if those seem to be working for you, one the next day)

He prescribed prenatal vitamins and gave us magic coupons to get them for free.

He believes we will get pregnant within three months. And will start looking for other causes of infertility if we are not.  (Did I mention the optimism?!)

The only downside of the whole visit was hearing how much it is going to be to inseminate. Rather than charge per service performed, he charges a flat rate each cycle that covers any and everything he has to do, including his recommended double insems. I don’t know if the rate is REALLY that high or not, but it was definitely higher than I was expecting. And you have to pay everything upfront (no credit) so it’s not like you can go into debt (well, you still can for the sperm, but … )

Right now we are in holding / saving period. We will have test results from today back sometime next week (he tested for so much, it’s hard NOT to be nervous). I will keep focused on my thyroid and we will continue to save money.

Meanwhile we have massages scheduled this weekend and I’m hoping to relax and enjoy!
